David Reinking

Dr. David Reinking is a prominent leader in the field of education. He is well known for using, explicating, and promoting design-based research to generate deep pedagogical understandings about how valued educational goals can be achieved in practice. He argues that design-based research better informs education practice in local contexts rather than providing broad generalizations of effectiveness, and, consequently, is more useful to teachers. His classroom research has focused on integrating digital technologies into literacy instruction. In 2008, he was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame. He has served as editor of the Journal of Literacy Research and of Reading Research Quarterly, and is a past-president of the Literacy Research Association. He has had several substantial federally funded grants and has published in top journals such as Reading Research Quarterly, Journal of Literacy Research, Journal of Literacy and Technology, Language Arts, the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, and the Journal of Curriculum and Instruction, and he has published several books. David is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, but started his long career in education as an elementary and middle school teacher. He has been a professor at Rutgers University, the University of Georgia, and Clemson University where he was a Distinguished Professor. Currently, in semi-retirement, he has a courtesy appointment at the University of Georgia.
